Can I just how much I LOVED the intro in couples this week? It was fantastic, why don’t they always do that??
I also love that Debbie Reynolds is on the panel this week! I’m a huge dork, and have loved her since I was little! I remember going to a Debbie Reynolds exhibit in Vegas when I was a kid and watching Singin’ in the Rain and she’s just great! “It’s fantastic to be alive”?! HA, love it!
Ryan and Ricky – Jazz, Mandy Moore
The dance was supposed to be sexy, and the dancing definitely was! I usually prefer Mandy’s dances when they have a story, but it was still incredible dancing! I was actually really impressed with Ricky. Ryan usually steals focus from everyone else on stage, but he really brought it tonight! In total agreement with Mary that he was a great partner as well!
Caitlynn and Mitchell – Contemporary, Stacey Tookey
Well that is Adele song #1 of the season – I’m betting we’ll hear at least 5 songs off 21 this season! This was a surprisingly good routine – Stacy Tookey is great! For how gay Mitchell is in the video clips (not being derogatory, just honest), the relationship and chemistry on stage seemed real. Caitlynn is as gorgeous a dancer as she is a person, and I am definitely happy with this couple!
Missy and Wadi – Cha Cha, Jean Marc Genereux
That was slightly painful to watch. Everything seemed super slow motion, and excuse me Jean Marc, that was NOT the hardest Cha Cha you’ve ever choreographed. There was pretty much nothing in that. Wadi was great at the lifts but awkward as all get out on anything with steps. His arms and back didn’t stay up and he just looked uncomfortable. Nigel complimented Missy a ton, but I didn’t think she was great either. She pretty much just walked around the stay trying to look sexy. Blah.
Iveta and Nick - Bollywood, Nakul
There’s just something about watching two white people do Bollywood that is a little off-putting to me, especially when one loks like she’s 45 and the other looks like he’s 17. I agree with Nigel that it wasn’t as strong as other Bollywood routines that have been on the show, and unfortunately it’s impossible to not compare on this show. Overall rating – average at best.
Miranda and Robert – Hip Hop, Nappy Tabs
Not gonna lie, that was a weird concept, but I actually liked the dancing! Miranda was pretty darn good at hip-hop, and Robert was great in his element, humorous hip hop, and handled the choreography really well. They did some good job staying in sync, hitting hard, and flipping around on stage. Such a pleasant surprise!
Clarice and Jess – Contemporary, Stacey Tookey
When I saw this was a Royal Wedding piece, I really thought I was going to hate it, but it was so sweet and cute and wonderful! They looked straight out of a Disney movie love scene, and I loved it! Jess’ center is so impressive, he can spin for days! The parts where they were doing moves side-by-side, they were so in sync, and I was in awe. Nigel didn’t love it and was worried for them, but I really enjoyed it!
Jordan and Tad – Viennese Waltz, Jean Marc Genereux
That was just gorgeous! Tad has BY FAR done the best at ballroom of all the b-boys! What a surprise! His arms were great, his feet were great, and he was such a strong leader! Jordan was gorgeous and so far from her usual “sexy” stage persona. They were just so lovely to watch. There were some gorgeous lifts; I loved the use of the bench; and their chemistry was perfect! Loved it!
Melanie and Marko – Jazz, Mandy Moore
There’s so much pressure when you’re the overwhelmingly favorite after the first week, and they 100% lived up to it! I loved how this routine was kind of split into two routines, one broadway jazz and one contemporary jazz, and I loved how Many used some of the same steps in different ways! These two are absolutely incredible, there’s not much more I can say! Great personalities, amazing technique, fabulous acting and getting into character, there’s nothing about them I don’t like!
Sasha and Alexander – Hip Hop, Nappy Tabs
Well I hated this song going into the routine, and now I like it thanks to the glory of NappyTabs! This was the perfect routine for Sasha because she rocked the lyrical part in the beginning, which was essentially a solo. Mary put it perfectly – she really showed her SOUL and she absolutely always does. Combine that with her incredible dancing skills, and I smell a spot in the finale. The judges fawned over her, as they should have, and pretty much ignored Alex. I wish she Sasha a different partner, but I think I can work with this. Alex actually did a great job, and I especially liked the headstand of Sasha’s back!
Ashley and Chris – Broadway, Spencer Liff
Initial response – “woah that was AWESOME”! That was the most unique routine I’ve ever seen on the show! Spencer Liff is so creative! I didn’t know how the bar thing was going to affect their chemistry, but it really didn’t at all! They seemed so into each other, and they were still able to do some amazing moves! I loved the alternating high kicks through the bars and all of Chris’ climbing. Ashley was smoldering hot, and I loved everything about this routine!!! First hot tamale train of the season! Woooo woooo!!! Oh Mary, I missed you!
Tomorrow is going to be REALLY hard! Because there were so many dances, I think the people at the beginning might be in danger, sorry Ryan ☹
B3: Missy and Wadi, Ivetta and Nick, Ryan and Ricky. In an ideal world, they would keep Ryan and Nick and pair them together from now on! Let’s all hope for that, shall we?!
BOTN: Ashley and Chris, Sasha and Alexander, Jordan and Tad…can’t decide! They all KILLED it!

BOTN: Sasha and Alex (I always LOVE Sasha and I think Alex really stepped up), Jordan and Tad (everything about them was beautiful), and although I absolutely loved Ashley and thought her red dress was super cute, I have to go with Caitlynn and Mitchell in my top 3 because they made me cry and her facial expressions were ridiculously amazing.
ReplyDeleteB3: I agree with you on the first 2.. But replace R and R with Miranda and Robert. Although Miranda was amazing and I like the dance, I don't think Robert has enough diversity in his style to keep going.
Best overall number: Jordan/Tad.
ReplyDeleteBest choreo: Both NappyTabs, they were AMAZING. I'm sorry, woodpeckers became that?? Genius.
Best performance: Caitlynn/Mitchell.
Best "solo" (or should I say SOUL-o, Mary?): Sasha.
Best couple, period: Melanie/Marko.
And I might have a huge crush on Wadi. If he goes I will not be happy -- this show is about GROWTH, give him a chance pleeease.
I love Wadi too, and he's definitely the most crush-worthy this season but that was bad :( Hope he stays but seeing Tad kill that waltz might hurt him a little.
